These are just some of the programs I've developed as the Founding Artistic Director for Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project.

The idea for Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project began in 2010, when there was a noticeable lack of Shakespeare-focused theatre companies in my area. I called a few friends and we tried to plan our first performance: Much Ado About Nothing. I was working out of a community theatre at the time and scheduling conflicts got in the way, but in 2011 we made it happen.

At this point in 2020 we've performed almost twenty productions - Shakespearean Classics and original works inspired by Shakespeare - and have expanded into hosting workshops and educational performances. Since I moved away from New England, we have continued to perform our free Shakespeare in Slater Park show each year by developing a virtual rehearsal schedule where we get together for just one full day of in person rehearsal before the show. This has allowed us to include actors from all over the country in our shows!

In 2017 we premiered our interactive school performance series - a chance for students to experience abridged performances of plays they're reading in class while also having the chance to be on stage as part of the show.
Since the start of Covid-19 quarantine, we've moved our platform entirely online, streaming a live read of a different play each week.

My main goal has always been to make Shakespeare fun and accessible for all. I work towards this goal by breaking down the language in meaningful and relevant ways, applying modern perspective to characters and content, and carefully editing the texts to tighten up a streamlined performance.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

“Anyone that can get my now 13 year old (started when she was 10) into Shakespeare deserves 5 Stars. Also, my 7 year old granddaughter first saw Romeo & Juliet when she was 4 years old and watched with her eyes glued to the stage. She later performed in Macbeth while in Kindergarten. Stephanie makes it interesting and fun. It really is the 'no fear' Shakespeare.”
“…introducing artists of all ages and experience to the poetry and power of Shakespeare…It’s inclusive, fun and challenging to all who care to partake.”

“An amazing, educational, and deeply important program.”
"Stephanie Crugnola has created a group focused on not only providing wonderful shows and content but also for learning, understanding, and gaining greater respect for the first name in play writers. I have had the pleasure to either be in or see every...show and do not plan on ever missing one. A great place for friends, learning, and fun."
"An ENTIRELY different experience from the stuff you do in school. By adding modern twists like music, the shows appeal to all audiences, from the far and few Shakespeare fans not performing onstage to otherwise uninterested children. As a performer, I look forward to every production...to learn new acting skills, meet great people, and just have a wonderful time. Regardless of whether you're onstage or in the audience, [it] is a valuable and worthwhile theater company to check out."
All grown-ups were once children -- although few of them remember it."
